MODULE 3 ASSIGNMENTS (Section 4)

MODULE 3: BASIC CHARACTER FORMS AND PROPORTIONS

1. Module 3 Assignment 1 (M3A1): Proportions

Recommended Time Investment: 1 Hour Per Page

Recommended Frequency: Daily Until Memorised

This assignment requires you to draw out, once per page, each of the proportional measurements learned in Module 3 (Body, Head Front, Head Side, Hands). The goal of this exercise is to help you memorise the proportional rules – memorising them is crucial in maintaining logical proportions when drawing. This also saves you a large amount of time when drawing, as you will no longer need to reference the proportions once memorised.

2. Module 3 Assignment 2 (M3A2): Static and Dynamic Forms

Recommended Time Investment: 1 Hour Per Page

Recommended Frequency: Daily

Total Exercises to be Completed: 5 Pages

This assignment requires you to draw 5x static forms on one half of a page, and then add dynamism to the forms, creating dynamic forms on the other half of the page. Keep in mind to use all your learned theory thus far, particularly being loose, and drawing through to envision all sides of an object.

3. Module 3 Assignment 3 (M3A3): Character Forms

Recommended Time Investment: 30 mins Per Page

Recommended Frequency: Daily

Total Exercises to be Completed: 3 Pages per basic forms set as per the lesson

In this assignment, draw on each page 6-9 of the basic forms per category, ensuring different angles and rotations of the forms. Use the video lessons to guide you. Your goal is to internalise the basic dynamic form structure of the major anatomical bodies in order to use this practically learned knowledge later on in the course.

Ensure you are implementing all necessary learned theory so far, and be loose and rough. One more thing, DO NOT DRAW FRON’T OR SIDE VIEWS – everything must always be drawn in 3 dimensions moving forward (rotations).

4. Module 3 Assignment 4 (M3A4): Facial Features

Recommended Time Investment: 30 Min Per Page

Recommended Frequency: Daily

Total Exercises to be Completed: 3x Pages per Facial Feature/Form

In this assignment, create 3 drawings of a particular facial feature per page (for example, 3 sets of ears per page) using the knowledge and examples in the video lessons. Ensure looseness, roughness and feature accuracy. It is advised that 3 pages per feature are done to aid memorization, as such, 9 features per category should be done in total (eg. 9 total ear drawings, 3 per page.)

5. Module 3 Assignment 5 (M3A5): Heads and Features

Recommended Time Investment: 2 Hrs Per Page

Recommended Frequency: Daily / Every Second Day

Total Exercises to be Completed: 10 Total Exercises with 3 Faces Per Page

Utilizing all learned knowledge so far, facial proportions, forms of the head and neck, and what you have learned about the basic facial features, draw 3x ¾ rotation heads per page, staying loose and rough. Vary the rotation both left and right. Utilize all the knowledge in each section on facial features, taking your time to implement the theory of each feature.

6. Module 3 Assignment 6 (M3A6): Full Form Bodies

Recommended Time Investment: 1 Hrs Per Page

Recommended Frequency: Daily / Every Second Day

Total Exercises to be Completed: 5 Total Exercises with 3 Bodies Per Page

Utilizing all learned knowledge so far, including body proportions and major dynamic forms of the body, draw 3x ¾ views of the body per page utilizing dynamic forms, staying loose and rough. Vary the rotation both left and right.
