MODULE 6 ASSIGNMENTS
MODULE 6: CHARACTER COMPOSITION AND DESIGN
Module 6 Assignment 1 (M6A1): Combining Theories
Recommended Time Investment: 4 Hours per piece
Recommended Frequency: Create 5 Drawings
Module 6 has an immense amount of all-important theories, and it may seem overwhelming. Using your knowledge of the Character Design and Compositional theories of Module 6, create a checklist of theories that are important to implement in your work. (eg. Balance, 3 Core Elements, 5 Keys to Posing, Secondary Actions, etc.), not forgetting all prior major theories (Dynamic Shapes, Looseness, lines of Action, Gestural Theories etc.)
Once the checklist has been created, draw 5x imaginative character drawings, ensuring you are marking off theories that you have applied on your checklist as you draw.
As you work through this assignment, you should start to notice just how much theory needs to be remembered to draw well. Strive to be mindful of all learned theories as you continue to create character drawings.
After a while, theories just become a part of how you draw, and you will learn to instinctively implement them based on what you see in front of you as you work.
Module 6 Assignment 2 (M6A2): Character Busts
Recommended Time Investment: 4 Hours per piece
Recommended Frequency: Create 5 Drawings
Using all your learned theory thus far, create 5x imaginative character drawings showing only the character’s busts (waist upwards). Ensure you are drawing using a multi-stage workflow (or two stage workflow if you are confident). Finish these bust drawings as professionally as possible.
Once you have completed the above drawings, take a moment to compare this work to the artwork that you created in Module 1 Assignment 1. What do you think?
REMINDER: We will cover clean-up techniques at a later stage in the course. For now, do your best based on what you have learned when you reach the clean-up stage.
