00:00:21.02 to path outlines anymore, 10 00:00:21.02 --> 00:00:24.07 because after all, we've now saved it to the Brush panel. 11 00:00:24.07 --> 00:00:26.07 So I'll just click one, shift click the other 12 00:00:26.07 --> 00:00:30.00 and press the Backspace key or the Delete key on the Mac. 13 00:00:30.00 --> 00:00:32.01 Now we need to retrieve the path outlines, 14 00:00:32.01 --> 00:00:34.01 20 00:00:47.06 --> 00:00:49.08 to switch to the White Arrow tool, 21 00:00:49.08 --> 00:00:51.08 and then click off that text, 22 00:00:51.08 --> 00:00:54.03 press Control + Y or Command + Y on the Mac 23 00:00:54.03 --> 00:00:56.02 to switch to the Outline Mode 24 00:00:56.02 --> 00:01:00.06 and go ahead and alt- or option-click on the path outline 25 00:01:00.06 --> 00:01:02.04 independently of the text, 26 00:01:02.04 --> 00:01:04.00 and if you've done it correctly, 27 00:01:04.00 --> 00:01:07.08 you will have selected the entire path outline like so. 28 00:01:07.08 --> 00:01:11.01 Then press Control + C or Command + C on the Mac 29 00:01:11.01 --> 00:01:13.07 in order to copy that path outline. 30 00:01:13.07 --> 00:01:17.00 And now, if you like, you can just press Control + 0 31 00:01:17.00 --> 00:01:19.06 or Command + 0 on the Mac in order to zoom out. 32 00:01:19.06 --> 00:01:21.06 Then just grab the Black Selection tool, 33 00:01:21.06 --> 00:01:23.09 which you can get by delete this path outline, 40 00:01:35.00 --> 00:01:36.05 which means the text won't have anything 41 00:01:36.05 --> 00:01:38.01 to hang onto anymore. 42 00:01:38.01 --> 00:01:39.06 And so if that happens to you, 43 00:01:39.06 --> 00:01:41.09 what you need to do, is just shift click 44 00:01:41.09 --> 00:01:44.03 on that text a couple of more times 45 00:01:44.03 --> 00:01:45.03 with the Black Arrow tool 46 00:01:45.03 --> 00:01:47.05 until you definitely get it selected, 47 00:01:47.05 --> 00:01:49.03 and then press the Backspace key 48 00:01:49.03 --> 00:01:51.07 or the Delete key on the Mac to get rid of it. 49 00:01:51.07 --> 00:01:53.04 And the reason I'm being so cavalier 50 00:01:53.04 --> 00:01:55.07 about getting rid of this editable text is 51 00:01:55.07 --> 00:01:57.03 because I still have it, 52 00:01:57.03 --> 00:02:00.09 it's just associated with those smooth path outlines. 53 00:02:00.09 --> 00:02:03.03 Alright, so, I'll go ahead and turn those guys off. 54 00:02:03.03 --> 00:02:06.07 Then I'll press Control + F or Command + F on the Mac 55 00:02:06.07 --> 00:02:09.00 in order to paste this object in front 56 00:02:09.00 --> 00:02:10.09 as we're seeing right here. 57 00:02:10.09 --> 00:02:13.09 Alright, now press Control + Y or Command + Y on the Mac 58 00:02:13.09 --> 00:02:16.01 to switch back to the Preview Mode, 59 00:02:16.01 --> 00:02:20.00 and with this path selected I bring up my Brushes panel, 60 00:02:20.00 --> 00:02:22.04 and I'll scroll down the list 61 00:02:22.04 --> 00:02:26.01 until I see that first text brush, different 00:02:30.04 --> 00:02:32.09 that things are already working better. 66 00:02:32.09 --> 00:02:35.08 Illustrator has not only auto fit the text, 67 00:02:35.08 --> 00:02:39.07 but we've got a kind of smooth transition at the word FOR. 68 00:02:39.07 --> 00:02:43.01 Alright now, I want to modify this path outline a little bit, 69 00:02:43.01 --> 00:02:46.02 and this is a kind of thing that is made really hard 70 00:02:46.02 --> 00:02:48.03 when you're working with text on a path. 71 00:02:48.03 --> 00:02:49.05 Let's see, for example, 72 00:02:49.05 --> 00:02:51.02 that the path outline isn't really the shape 73 00:02:51.02 --> 00:02:52.05 I'm looking for, 74 00:02:52.05 --> 00:02:54.08 and I still want it to be symmetrical, 75 00:02:54.08 --> 00:02:56.01 in which case, what I'd like to do, 76 00:02:56.01 --> 00:02:57.07 is get rid of half the path, 77 00:02:57.07 --> 00:02:59.04 modify the other half, 78 00:02:59.04 --> 00:03:02.00 and then flip it and join those pieces together, 79 00:03:02.00 --> 00:03:03.00 which you really can't do 80 00:03:03.00 --> 00:03:04.09 when you're working with text on a path. 81 00:03:04.09 --> 00:03:06.06 So here's what I'm thinking. 82 00:03:06.06 --> 00:03:09.07 I'm going to press the A key to switch to White Arrow tool, 83 00:03:09.07 --> 00:03:12.04 and I'll click on this right hand anchor point, 84 00:03:12.04 --> 00:03:13.09 and I'll press the Backspace key 85 00:03:13.09 --> 00:03:16.01 or the Delete key on the Mac to get rid of it, 86 00:03:16.01 --> 00:03:19.03 and just like that, Illustrator already goes ahead 87 00:03:19.03 --> 00:03:21.03 and path-fits that text. 88 00:03:21.03 --> 00:03:24.03 Alright, now I'm going to select this anchor point right here. 89 00:03:24.03 --> 00:03:25.04 And just so you can follow along 90 path. 127 00:04:55.04 --> 00:04:57.09 I'll press the A key to switch back to my White Arrow tool, 128 00:04:57.09 --> 00:05:01.04 and I'll marquee these two anchor points right here, 129 00:05:01.04 --> 00:05:02.08 and I'll join 'em together 130 00:05:02.08 --> 00:05:04.02 by going up to the Object menu, 131 00:05:04.02 --> 00:05:07.01 choosing Path and choosing Join, 132 00:05:07.01 --> 00:05:09.04 or you have that keyboard shortcut of Control + J 133 00:05:09.04 --> 00:05:12.05 or Command + J on the Mac, and just like that, 134 00:05:12.05 --> 00:05:14.07 it joins the two paths together 135 00:05:14.07 --> 00:05:17.05 and strokes it with a single art brush. 136 00:05:17.05 --> 00:05:20.04 Now of course, the art brush is a little bit messed up here. 137 00:05:20.04 --> 00:05:22.00 It's upside down and everything, 138 00:05:22.00 --> 00:05:24.07 but we can fix that just by pressing the V key 139 00:05:24.07 --> 00:05:26.06 to switch back to the Black Arrow tool. 140 let's say that you want to distort that text 151 00:05:55.06 --> 00:05:57.05 in the middle, so it's taller. 152 00:05:57.05 --> 00:05:59.06 In that case, I'd grab the Width tool, 153 00:05:59.06 --> 00:06:02.00 and that's because you can use the Width tool 154 00:06:02.00 --> 00:06:05.03 to distort any art brush along a path outline. 155 00:06:05.03 --> 00:06:06.05 And so what I'm going to do, 156 00:06:06.05 --> 00:06:07.09 you have to be careful on this one, 157 00:06:07.09 --> 00:06:09.05 you click on this point right here, 158 00:06:09.05 --> 00:06:12.03 and then you shift double-click
