WEBVTT

00:04.250 --> 00:05.840
Hello everybody and welcome back.

00:05.840 --> 00:10.820
In this lecture we're going to take a really quick look at adding objects to our scene now in front

00:10.820 --> 00:13.120
of us art default scene we have a camera.

00:13.130 --> 00:13.950
Objects.

00:14.000 --> 00:21.960
If I go ahead and select that now we have a cube object and we also have a lamp or light object.

00:21.980 --> 00:29.780
Now all of these have a position in our 3D world and that position is governed by this little orange

00:29.780 --> 00:35.120
dots that all three have in the lamp in the cube it's in the center of them.

00:35.120 --> 00:38.620
And for the camera it's where the camera comes to a point.

00:38.630 --> 00:43.190
If we just move around slightly we can see it's got it there.

00:43.220 --> 00:45.710
Now we won't just cover adding objects.

00:45.710 --> 00:46.940
We're going to cover deleting them.

00:46.940 --> 00:52.670
So let's go ahead and delete all default cube I'm going to select it and I'm going to go X to delete

00:53.340 --> 00:58.290
when you press the X key we get a confirmation come up and then we can go ahead and delete.

00:58.310 --> 01:00.050
That's objects.

01:00.050 --> 01:03.620
Now what we can do straightaway is go ahead and add a different object.

01:03.620 --> 01:05.660
So we've got rid of our default cube.

01:05.720 --> 01:10.760
We can go up to the Add menu at the top here go to mash and add a cube back him.

01:10.760 --> 01:14.380
But now let's add something else let's add in a AUV sphere.

01:14.450 --> 01:17.700
So we've got a ball in our scene now.

01:17.750 --> 01:21.740
You can also see what's in your scene by going over to the outline.

01:22.490 --> 01:27.500
If we go ahead and I'm going to widen this up a little and let's have a look by clicking this that's

01:27.500 --> 01:30.440
an hour here we get a dropdown we've got camera.

01:30.530 --> 01:35.360
And if we left click here you can see not only is it selected in the outline which can be a little bit

01:35.360 --> 01:42.170
difficult to see the orange circle behind the objects but also it's selected in the 3D view and the

01:42.170 --> 01:44.730
same is true with the light and the sphere.

01:44.840 --> 01:48.470
And these are ordered by their name.

01:48.470 --> 01:52.730
Now the question is why did that sphere appear in the center of the world.

01:52.730 --> 01:56.820
Well objects will appear wherever the 3d cursor is placed.

01:56.840 --> 02:02.540
Now if we have a look on the tool shelf on the left hand side if it's not there press the T key to make

02:02.540 --> 02:08.690
it appear and we've got this little thing that looks like a target this red and white circle with crosshairs

02:08.690 --> 02:09.110
in the middle.

02:09.110 --> 02:15.110
If we go ahead and click that if you make sure that surface projects has a tick in it we can click on

02:15.110 --> 02:22.280
our sphere and if we zoom in and I'm going to just pan down ever so slightly we see that this cursor

02:22.310 --> 02:26.270
is now snapped to the surface of our cube.

02:26.270 --> 02:32.840
And now if we go ahead and go add mash and let's go to a cube it will add it with the center of that

02:32.840 --> 02:35.810
object where the 3d cursor is.

02:36.020 --> 02:42.350
Now whilst you've added something in the lower left you'll see something that says add cube if we do

02:42.470 --> 02:46.970
anything else to the cube that will disappear and change to something else.

02:46.970 --> 02:48.620
This is the operator panel.

02:48.620 --> 02:55.390
If we go ahead and open it up we've got an option and this is the one time option to edit.

02:55.400 --> 02:56.650
That's primitive.

02:56.750 --> 03:00.650
Now with a cube that doesn't matter too much because a cube is a cube is a cube.

03:00.650 --> 03:06.920
But we can change its size but if we go ahead and click on the edge of the cube here and go to add something

03:06.920 --> 03:11.600
else a bit more complex like a U V sphere again.

03:11.600 --> 03:18.770
We see that we've got an option here to adjust how many segments how many rings its radius and loads

03:18.770 --> 03:21.400
of other pre-determined options as well.

03:21.410 --> 03:28.490
I'm going to make this a very very low low polygon sphere and as we can see is very low at the moment

03:28.520 --> 03:30.890
I'm going to make it just a tiny bit smaller as well.

03:30.890 --> 03:37.490
Now if you're clicking and dragging in these fields what you can do is hold down the shift key to really

03:37.490 --> 03:42.800
slow down so you're not jumping all over the place and trying to really find assets you can hold down

03:42.800 --> 03:47.300
shift and that will slow down how rapidly these values change.

03:47.360 --> 03:51.920
So we've now got a couple of objects added to a scene and we can see in the outline that we've got a

03:51.920 --> 04:00.530
series of spheres and a cube now sphere and Sphere 001 aren't great names we can rename streets in here

04:01.130 --> 04:02.350
and type in the name.

04:02.360 --> 04:05.810
So I call cool this one low poly sphere.

04:05.810 --> 04:08.620
Now it is important to name things as you go.

04:08.690 --> 04:15.800
Now you'll notice that underneath it also got renamed and that's because we're in the object data properties

04:15.830 --> 04:18.740
and we have a closer look at that area in the future.

04:19.340 --> 04:25.490
So the final thing I want to show you is having precise control over this 3d cursor at the moment we

04:25.490 --> 04:31.250
can click on the surface of an object and it will place things there but it might be worthwhile generating

04:31.310 --> 04:36.860
our objects in a very precise location in order to do that we'd need to position that 3d cursor more

04:36.860 --> 04:42.740
precisely and that's true let's say if we wanted another lamp in our scene we can't just click anywhere

04:42.770 --> 04:48.730
and it also magically go to the right place because there's no surface for this 3d cursor to go to.

04:48.740 --> 04:54.320
So if I go ahead and open up the 3D Ed properties panel by even go into the little arrow next to the

04:54.320 --> 04:59.810
3D limbo or pressing the end key we will go into this one lots in the course.

04:59.930 --> 05:06.020
And if I scroll down we've got an option for the 3D cursors position and hey you can type in some world

05:06.020 --> 05:07.070
coordinates.

05:07.070 --> 05:16.250
So if I wanted to position a lamp directly above this object I would have an x location of 0 a y location

05:16.280 --> 05:16.990
of 0.

05:17.630 --> 05:24.770
And here we can see maybe an as Z location of three and then we can go to the ad menu or use the shortcuts

05:25.130 --> 05:30.700
and go to light and we've got a couple of different types of lights but I'm going to add a point light

05:30.800 --> 05:33.800
again just like the one we've got at the top here.

05:33.950 --> 05:37.670
We'll cover lights and lamps in much more detail later on.

05:37.760 --> 05:42.200
And there we go we may think that the other lamp is now redundant.

05:42.210 --> 05:47.070
So in order to select it we're going to have to go back over to our tool shelf and I'm going to click

05:47.100 --> 05:49.830
over so we're selecting items again.

05:49.830 --> 05:51.390
And then I can select my lamp.

05:51.480 --> 05:54.150
Press x to delete and off we go.

05:54.870 --> 05:57.990
Okay everybody I've got a real quick challenge for you.

05:57.990 --> 06:00.200
Just so we can practice what we've just learned.

06:00.210 --> 06:07.890
I'd like you to load up the default scene delete the Cuban light from the scene and add in a U V sphere

06:08.280 --> 06:14.940
and another light put it in a different place if you like but it has to be away and somewhere floating

06:14.940 --> 06:19.380
in space like we've done with this one here pause video now and give that's a go

06:23.670 --> 06:25.080
Hello everybody and welcome back.

06:25.080 --> 06:28.910
Let's go ahead and do this real quick challenge something to open up about the false scene.

06:28.920 --> 06:32.140
I'm going to delete my lamp.

06:32.280 --> 06:34.260
I'm going to delete my cube.

06:34.260 --> 06:39.150
Now the 3-D cursor is already in the middle of the scene so I can go ahead and add in my u v sphere

06:39.150 --> 06:41.040
straight away.

06:41.040 --> 06:46.670
Now for the 3d cursor for the lights needs to be placed in a certain position.

06:46.680 --> 06:49.230
And we haven't taught you how to move things yet.

06:49.290 --> 06:52.030
What I can do here is set my 3d cursor.

06:52.120 --> 06:57.960
I'm going to lift it up and I'm going to move it out and across ever so slightly sets roughly the same

06:57.960 --> 06:59.290
as it was before.

06:59.320 --> 07:02.440
I'm going to add in the type of light that point lights.

07:02.580 --> 07:03.330
And there we go.

07:03.360 --> 07:05.090
My scene has been recreated.

07:05.120 --> 07:07.300
But this time with a goofy sphere.

07:07.870 --> 07:09.030
OK so there we go.

07:09.030 --> 07:14.070
Everybody well done for performing this very simple challenge but very important challenge.

07:14.070 --> 07:19.530
These are some of the fundamental skills that you're going to be using again and again in blender and

07:19.530 --> 07:25.550
it won't be long before you're generating some really amazing models from just using these basic skills.

07:25.650 --> 07:28.380
But until then I'll see you in the next lecture.
