00:04.460 --> 00:07.930
Hello everybody and welcome to this very quick reminder video.

00:07.940 --> 00:12.780
Now we're going to talk about applying transforms we're about to do some animation in this section.

00:12.920 --> 00:19.040
And if you forget to apply your transforms as I've seen some of you do hence why this lecture even exists.

00:19.130 --> 00:24.350
If you forget to apply those transforms you can end up moving your model later on when we start rigging

00:24.350 --> 00:27.460
it and animating it and it will fly apart.

00:27.500 --> 00:33.140
And one of the reasons for that is the lack of applying of transforms now would just remind you now

00:33.170 --> 00:36.170
what that entails and the effect it's going to have on your model.

00:36.170 --> 00:40.620
So let's hop quickly over into blender and remind you about applying transforms.

00:41.850 --> 00:47.790
Okay so here in front of us I've mocked up a really quick lamp just to show you where the scaling is

00:47.790 --> 00:48.760
going funny.

00:48.810 --> 00:50.840
So we have four parts to our lamp.

00:50.840 --> 00:55.410
We have the base the lower arm upper arm and the lampshade itself.

00:55.420 --> 00:59.170
And as we look along here we've got a rotation that's on here.

00:59.220 --> 01:01.460
We've got a location and we've got a scale.

01:01.470 --> 01:07.170
These are the three transforms that you can go ahead and apply in general we're not going to touch the

01:07.170 --> 01:11.820
location that is important if you go and change its location you're going to often change its pivot

01:11.820 --> 01:17.190
point and even go ahead and inadvertently move your object so we don't want to do that.

01:17.280 --> 01:23.580
But the rotation itself we may want to set that and we also may want to have a look at the scale the

01:23.580 --> 01:25.450
dimensions are absolutely fine.

01:25.470 --> 01:29.130
You will not need to touch those but it may need scaling.

01:29.130 --> 01:34.910
If it's not got a scale factor of 1 1 1 on X Y and Z we need to apply a scale there as well.

01:35.040 --> 01:36.060
So let's start with this.

01:36.060 --> 01:41.640
On top we can see that it only needs a rotation applied so we can even go down to the object menu itself

01:42.060 --> 01:45.960
and go to apply and then we can apply the rotation.

01:45.960 --> 01:49.150
Now you can also see there the shortcut key is control in a.

01:49.320 --> 01:51.260
And that will bring up this same submenu.

01:51.260 --> 01:54.540
So we go ahead there and apply the rotation.

01:54.810 --> 01:59.960
Let's go to the next arm down at the upper arm in this case and just have a quick look here.

01:59.960 --> 02:01.310
So we've got this upper arm here.

02:01.380 --> 02:06.160
We can see it's got a rotation applied to it but it does have a scale factor on it.

02:06.240 --> 02:12.000
So in order to sort that out what we can do is go control and a Or command an A if you're on a Mac and

02:12.000 --> 02:18.330
we get that menu up and notice here we get an option for rotation and scale so that it does lump those

02:18.330 --> 02:22.150
two together because they're often two things you will need to apply.

02:22.470 --> 02:25.860
So let's go ahead and apply in this case just the scale because it's all we need.

02:25.950 --> 02:31.560
And then we can repeat that on these last two is where in fact we can group select them and apply the

02:31.560 --> 02:37.470
scale and then when we have a look at both of these individual items we can see that their scale factor

02:37.500 --> 02:38.570
is now 1.

02:38.610 --> 02:42.150
The rotation is or one is whether managed to click on the right part.

02:42.150 --> 02:42.800
There we go.

02:42.960 --> 02:46.520
And this lampshade as well is all sorted.

02:46.650 --> 02:53.040
So just as you're going through this section do remember to apply those transforms to save yourself

02:53.040 --> 02:54.970
a bit of headache further down the line.

02:54.990 --> 02:59.820
Of course the final thing you can do here is whenever you are creating parts for your lamp or any other

02:59.820 --> 03:01.140
project you're working on.

03:01.290 --> 03:04.970
Think carefully about when you when you need to resize something.

03:05.040 --> 03:10.080
If youre not reciting the entire object and then applying the scale afterwards if you are actually creating

03:10.080 --> 03:16.050
something then think about it is youre creating a mesh and therefore youre editing a mesh and therefore

03:16.260 --> 03:20.010
you would be in edit mode as you are editing something.

03:20.400 --> 03:20.970
Okay.

03:21.150 --> 03:25.560
Is no particular challenge with this video so we're going to crack on and jump straight into the next

03:25.560 --> 03:27.720
lecture and I'll see you all there.
